There are a lot of treatments and spa services that promise to help rejuvenate your skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and other imperfections. However, none of them are quite as gossip-worthy as the vampire facial. Also called PRP treatments, these facials – popularized by a certain celebrity – use platelet-rich plasma (PRP) extracted from your body to jump-start healing in a new kind of facial, and Beach Beauty Health Spa is proud to offer this innovative treatment.
If you have read our introduction post on vampire facials, then you already have an idea of what the procedure involves. If not, then it’s important that you know that while the procedure is simple and practically pain-free, it does include microneedling. Microneedling is a process where your aesthetician uses a specialized tool to make many tiny injections into your skin, helping the platelet-rich plasma penetrate deeper to trigger your body’s natural healing process. The effects can be astounding, but your skin will be sensitive for a few days after your facial, and proper aftercare is essential to achieving the best possible results.
What Not to Do
In part two of our vampire facial aftercare series, we discussed a few initial steps to avoiding pain and irritation, like avoiding makeup, sweat, and chlorinated or saltwater. In the final installment of this series, we’ll go over a few more things that you should not do in the hours and days following your appointment.
Expose Your Skin to Direct Heat
We already warned against exposing your skin to direct sunlight in our last post, but that’s not the only kind of heat you should consider. Blow dryers, saunas, tanning, and hot yoga are all possibilities that could expose your delicate skin to damaging heat. You need to ease back into your regular health and skin care routine after a vampire facial. If you have read about vampire facials before, then you know that the advice is almost all the same: give yourself a few days to relax and recover before returning to your old routine.
Take Blood Thinners or NSAIDs
You should avoid any blood-thinning medication or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) like before and after your PRP treatment. That includes simple medications like ibuprofen, Motrin, and Aleve. These drugs, in combination with the microneedling procedure involved in a vampire facial, can encourage bruising. Make sure that you are honest and straightforward with your spa professional about any medications you are on or any aspects of your lifestyle that might affect your PRP treatment so that they can make specific adjustments or recommendations.
Schedule More Facial Treatments Within 1–2 Days
A moisturizing mask at home might be just what the doctor ordered after a vampire facial, but more intensive treatments should be avoided. Chemical peels, laser treatments, or similar kinds of facial treatments can do more harm than good to your healing skin. You certainly shouldn’t try any of these kinds of facials within a few days after your PRP treatment — waiting a few weeks is an even better way to ensure that your skin is fully recovered.
